Social Security Disability

Social Security Disability is a federal program administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) that provides monthly benefits to individuals who are unable to work due to a severe physical or mental condition.

The SSA defines “disability” as the inability to engage in any Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) by reason of a medically determinable impairment that has lasted, or is expected to last, for a continuous period of at least 12 months, or result in death. The process for obtaining benefits can be lengthy and involves multiple levels of appeal.
